Tommy was the fourth studio album of the British rock band The Who. It was recorded in IBC Studios, England from September 1968 up to March 1969. It was then released as a double album on May 23, 1969. The length of the album is 75:12 and it was produced by Kit Lambert. Most of the songs can be categorized in the hard rock and rock genre. Almost all of the songs was written by Pete Townshend  except for 3 or 4 songs which was written by others. The album is a rock opera that tells the story of a deaf, dumb, blind boy including his experiences with life and the relationship with his family. Pete Townshend wanted to express how he felt after beingnthought by Meher Baba that was why he wrote this rock opera.  The album had positive reviews when it was released. Some critics even say that this album is what propelled the band to the limelight. They even said that the album was an influential and important rock album. It even reached number 2 in the UK charts and number 4 in the US. The album sold 200,000 copies in its first two weeks of release in the US alone.
